YSE (Young Social Entrepreneurs)
Young Social Enterpreneurs (YSE) Initiative was developed to recognize the contributions, as well as harness the potential of young social entrepreneurs. The YSE initiative is an offshoot of the Volunteer for Life project initiated by the Fresh & Young Brains Development Initiative in collaboration with the United Nations Volunteers, Nigerian National Volunteers Service and Development Information Centre.
YSEs will undertake service projects to achieve development goals and encourage youth volunteerism, positively mentor other youth, promote youth development, and provide feedback on youth issues and contributions to development in Nigeria.
The YSE Initiative will be launched on the 29th of March 2011 at the International Conference Centre, Abuja, Nigeria.
Barr. Nkiruka Stella Nnaemego
Nkiru holds a degree in Law from the University of Nigeria and is a development practitioner with strong leadership qualities. She founded and currently runs a youth based organization – Fresh & Young Brains Development Initiative with special focus on Volunteerism, Youth and Sustainable Development, Mentoring, Minorities Rights, Leadership and Character Development. She has been at the fore front of youth leadership issues for over a decade which has earned her two international awards – Youth Ambassador for Peace, and Millennium Development Ambassador. Through her organization and in partnership with other organizations, she has been able to train over 5,000 youths within and outside Nigeria on effective and transformative leadership, youth mainstreaming and volunteerism on the MDGs.
She has undertaken research, capacity building and consultations with Government, Local, National and International Organizations. She designed the Volunteer for Life Project as a way of building and mainstreaming youth volunteerism and promoting youth enterprise development. This project is now being replicated in several countries and communities as part of her contribution to achieving the United Nations Millennium Development Goals by 2015. The VFL Project will be launched in Nigeria on March 29, 2011
Ify N. Ogo
Ify is the pioneer Project Officer of the Development Information Centre, a World Bank/United Nations Information Centre, Nigeria project to promote development issues. Ify is also a consultant to Landmark Internship International and the UNITeS-CISCO Networking Academy.
Ify is responsible for designing and implementing DIC strategy and operations;
DIC utilizes a partnership based approach in identifying, assessing and tackling developmental issues in Nigeria. To achieve its goals, DIC organizes and participates in development related seminars, conferences and events around Nigeria and globally. Also, the centre uses traditional and online media platforms to promote development issues, engage the public, and ensure feedback. DIC organizes, facilitates and supports training programmes targeted at improving development and skills learning. Furthermore, in collaboration with its partners, DIC executes developmental projects around Nigeria particularly those projects targeted towards the achievement of the Millennium Development Goals.
A seasoned development information researcher and communicator, Ify has worked extensively in promoting Information Communication Technology as an important tool in development. Also, she utilizes several media platforms; particularly film and web 2.0 tools to ensure that developmental information is accessible without limitations. Additionally, Ify has worked to ensure youth participation in development by providing training, opportunities, and support in the execution of developmental projects. She is particularly interested in global political economy and systems, ICT, and development policy.
Ify has consulted on several developmental projects worldwide, and is currently consulting with Landmark Internship International to create opportunities for young people to obtain development/skills training and work experience simultaneously across Africa.
Ify holds a degree in Law and Politics from Queen Mary, University of London, and has worked in the media, politics, teaching and legal services.
Hilary Eze
Hilary Ugochukwu Eze is a Business Enterpreneur Graduate from Kursk State University, Russia. He is the founder of Innovation Reflects - a business initiative aimed to promote youth creativity and enterpreneurship. His core values are volunteerism, transparency and innovation and a result-oriented person. His hobbies are stage acting, singing, research and travelling.
He belongs to a variety of youth and business networks within and outside the country. He is a member of COREN; Petroleum Products Marketers Professionals; Actors Guild of Nigeria; Junior Chambers International; Rotary International; World Bank Youth Forum and Nigeria Youth Climate Action Network (NigeriaYouthCAN).
Hilary is the author of four books on Personal and Business Development. He is result-oriented and committed to his work; this earned him the Best Foreign Student Award (2006), Kursk State University, Russia.
He consults on Renewable Energy and Dredging especially as they affect young people.
Currently, he is a project team member in the Volunteer For Life Project initiated by Fresh & Young Brains Development Initiative with support from United Nations Volunteers.
Ginika Onukogu
Ginikanwa Onukogu is a partner at Qwikdrops services which delivers personal and office supports in Abuja, Nigeria. Ginika holds a B.Sc in International Business Administration and Management from the United States International University, Nairobi, Kenya.
Ginika has worked with United Nations Volunteers as an Operations Assistant. She has organised fund raising activities which supported female victims of abuse. Ginika is passionate about abused women and works to gather research, enlighten and tackle cases of female abuse in Nigeria.
As the first child and only daughter of 3, she grew up taking care of her loved ones giving her the sense of responsibility and foresight. She perceives herself to be a humble, caring and hard working individual. Having lived and worked in Nigeria and in Nairobi, Kenya, she understands the level of professionalism and communication required for long-term success within an increasingly global working environment. Her belief in integrity, respect, loyalty and hard-work translates into a highly motivated, productive individual.
Gbenga Ogunjimi
Gbenga has extensive experience in the nonprofit sector, where he has focused primarily on development. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in History and International Relations from Lagos State University. Gbenga is the founder of Landmark Internship International, an organization promoting volunteerism and entrepreneurship in Nigeria. Gbenga utilized Web 2.0, a form of social media, to advance enterprise development across the country. Through the Come to Africa Campaign, he has mobilized worldwide talents in Africa’s for-profit and non-profit organizations to achieve global competitiveness. In 2007, he won the Global Young Social Entrepreneur’s Competition in recognition of his efforts with the campaign. Gbenga has spoken at the Social Enterprise World Forum as well as the Global Peace Convention. He has been a consultant to the UN’s Development Information Center Lagos Project, and has been a member of several social enterprise advisory boards.
